Francqui lectures by Neil Walker in Leuven

In the Spring term of 2017, Prof. dr. Neil Walker (Edinburgh) will hold an International Francqui Chair at KU Leuven, Belgium. This chair is a joint initiative of KU Leuven’s Institute of Philosophy, KU Leuven’s Faculty of Law, and ULB’s Faculty of Law. The overarching theme of Neil Walker’s Francqui Chair is Europe: Imagining the First Post-State Polity.

The inaugural lecture is taking place on Monday 27 February at 4 p.m. at the University Halls in Leuven. The title of Neil Walker’s inaugural lecture reads: “The Experiment of the European Union and the Spectre of Disintegration”. At this occasion, Neil Walker will also be awarded the Francqui Medal. This lecture is free, but prior registration is required.

From February to May 2017, there will be a series of 6 public lectures and seminars.

Tuesday 2 May 2017: “Modelling Europe: Europe in the Global Imaginary, the Globe in the European Imaginary”

• 3 p.m. – 4.30 p.m., seminar, respondents: Hans Lindahl (Tilburg) and David Restrepo Amariles (ULB), chair: Esma Baycan (UNIGE and KU Leuven)

It is possible to attend one or more lectures without attending the full programme. It is also possible to attend a lecture but not attend the corresponding seminar. However, it is not possible to attend a seminar without attending the corresponding lecture, as the discussion in the seminar will build on the lecture given by Neil Walker.

All lectures and seminars are free, but prior registration is required. At the public lectures, coffee and sandwiches are provided for free. Public lectures take place at KU Leuven’s Faculty of Law (Auditorium Zeger Van Hee), seminars take place at KU Leuven’s Institute of Philosophy (Council Room).
