The Institute of Constitutional Law (University of Leuven, Belgium) has a vacancy for:

PHD-FELLOWSHIP IN CONSTITUTIONAL LAW AND LEGAL THEORY – KU LEUVEN (BELGIUM)

The Institute of Constitutional Law  welcomes applicants for a fully-funded PHD-fellowship for a four year period.
The fellowship is part of a larger research project, entitled: “Sovereignty in the Belgian Constitution: its 1831 meaning and its implications for political participation today”. This research project has a double aim. One the one hand, it intends to construct a new interpretation of the conception of sovereignty that underlies Belgium’s 1831 constitution. One the other hand, it intends to investigate the consequences of this new interpretation for forms of direct participation today.
The fellow is expected to write and defend a PhD-dissertation on the Belgian founding fathers’ conception of sovereignty and the original meaning of the sovereignty clause in the Belgian Constitution (current Article 33), under the supervision of Stefan Sottiaux (Institute of Constitutional Law) and the co-supervision of Raf Geenens (Institute of Philosophy).

 Responsibilities:
• The fellow is expected to write and defend a PhD-dissertation in law.
• The fellow is expected to be physically present in Leuven, and will be asked to take up certain educational and organisational duties.

Profile:
• The candidate should hold a master diploma in law, with demonstrable strengths in constitutional theory or legal history.
• The candidate should have the ambition to pursue creative academic research.
• The candidate should be able to read and write English fluently.
• The candidate should be able to read French.
